Welcome to St Serf’s
Who are we?
We are a gathering of Christian friends who form a congregation of the Scottish Episcopal Church, part of the world wide Anglican Communion. We are in the Diocese of St Andrews, Dunkeld and Dunblane which is led by our Bishop, the Rt Revd David Chillingworth. Our Rector is the Revd Canon Val Nellist and we are part of the Aberdour, Burntisland and Inverkeithing Group of Episcopal churches. The congregation is not large but all ages are represented enabling us to offer a warm welcome to families with children as well as to older folk.
Worship?
The Sunday service is at 9.30am, Holy Communion using the 1982 ‘Blue Book’ Scottish Liturgy sung to a setting appropriate to the season. In addition, usually two Sundays a month, we use the 1970 ‘Grey Book’ Liturgy sung to Merbecke. We also enjoy Prayer Book Evensong, Taizé services and sung Compline on occasions throughout the year. We have a small mixed choir of children and adults to assist us in the singing of services and they are augmented by the ABI Singers for evening and festival services. On Tuesdays at 11am there is an informal Communion service in the church’s coffee lounge and we set aside time then and offer prayer for healing.
Fellowship?
The coffee lounge attached to the church not only enables us to gather for refreshments after worship but also gives space for crèche and Sunday school facilities. The Mothers’ Union hold their meetings there as do the Vestry. Currently there are not enough young folk for a viable youth group but the youngsters we do have join the Sunday evening youth gathering at Holy Trinity, Dunfermline. They have there a full programme of activities and also participate in Diocesan and Provincial youth events.
